ABOUT PIANO DUO
Laura Balicov/Stanislav Jar Piano Duo started first their activity in 2018. in the past both solo performers were largely appreciated individually by international audiences before unifying in a piano duo/quatre-mains. First concert appearance as a duo was made in 2018 in Organ Hall (Chisinau, Moldova) in a program dedicated to works by S. Rachmaninoff. In the following years the duo has expanded their repertoire also for quatre-mains. Since 2019 the duo began performing more often in The Netherlands. From 2020 until now there are annual concert appearances in Moldova and Romania. The choice of the repertoire are works like Fantasia by F. Schubert, “Petrouchka” by I. Stravinsky, Symphonic Dances by S. Rachmaninoff, 21 Hungarian Dances by J. Brahms, Sonatas by W.A. Mozart and more miniature cycles like “Jeux d’enfants” by G. Bizet, Petite Suite by C. Debussy, Six Morceaux by S. Rachmaninoff. The duo is always looking to enrich their repertoire and make new discoveries. Currently both artists live and perform in The Netherlands.

LAURA BALICOV
Laura Balicov was born in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova in 1997. She began her studies in the art of piano at the age of 9 at the "Ciprian Porumbescu" Lyceum of Music with Larisa Jar. While studying with Larisa Jar, Laura won several national and international piano competitions: Golden Medal at the National Competition “Delphic Games”, Chisinau, Moldova(2008); International Competition “E. Coca”, Chisinau, Moldova, I Prize (2009); International Competition “P. Constantinescu” , Ploiesti, Romania, Grand Prix (2019); International Piano Competition “F. Chopin”, Bacau, Romania, Grand Prix (2014); International Piano Competition “Pro Piano” , Bucharest, Romania, I Prize (2014). Laura first debuted with the Moldovan National Symphonic Orchestra in 2009 in Chisinau, where she performed Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 15 in B-flat, conductor - Steven Huang (USA). During this period Laura gave solo recitals at the Academy of Music in Chișinău, German Embassy Residence, Polish Embassy, Organ Hall and Chișinău Philharmonic. In the same year Laura was invited to perform in the Small Hall of Sankt -Petersburg Philharmonic, Russia, piano works written by Natalia Rusu-Kozulina (Russian composer). In 2010 Laura participated at the International Competition “F. Chopin” , Szafarnia, Poland, Finalist Diploma, International Competition “C. Filtsch”, Sibiu, Romania, III Prize and at the National Competition “Zlata Tkaci” , Chisinau, Moldova, II Prize. Laura won a Scholarship from the Charity Foundation “Novye Imena” (“New Names”) named after Ivetta Voronova (Russia) for demonstrating a high level of professional training and significant creative achievements. While studying at the Music Lyceum, Laura performed with singers, participated at the national and international chamber music competitions and Masterclasses and became a member of Chișinău National Philharmonic Orchestra and Chişinău Youth Orchestra. In 2014, Laura performed at the National Philharmonic in Chisinau music by Alexander Timofeev (composer USA) during the Release of CD Album “New Age”. In 2015 Laura performed with Chişinău Symphony Orchestra Concerto in G Major by M. Ravel, conductor - Mihail Agafita following the performance of the same concerto with National Philharmonic Orchestra of Bacau Atheneum (Romania), conductor - Cristian Lupes. Upon graduation from "C. Porumbescu" Lyceum of Music, Laura Balicov continued her studies at the Royal Conservatory in Hague, The Netherlands with professor Naum Grubert. While studying with Naum Grubert, Laura gave many recitals in Moldova, Romania and The Netherlands performing Ravel, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Mozart, Balakirev, Beethoven. In November 2017 Laura performed Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Minor with Philharmonic National Symphony Orchestra in Chisinau, conductor - Alexandru Ganea (Romania). In the same year Laura participated at the "Dag in de Branding" Festival as an orchestra member, by performing "Michael's Reis" Opera of Shtockhausen in Muziekgebouw, Amsterdam. Starting with year 2018, Laura, together with her piano duo partner Stanislav Jar, gave numerous recitals with two pianos and quatre-mains repertoire. Their debut was at the Organ Hall, performing Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Suite for Two Pianos , continuing with concerts and festivals in The Netherlands , recitals in Romania, Moldova, performing with orchestra Bach’s Concerto for Two Pianos in C Major at the Organ Hall, Chișinău, conductor - Alexandru Ganea (Romania) and Czerny’s Concerto written for four hands and Symphonic Orchestra in Tiraspol, conductor - Grigoryi Moseiko. Laura participated in many masterclasses with the world's famous pianists: Ronald Brautigam, Frank Braley, Hanna Shibaeva, Alexander Paley, Eduard Kunz and others. In 2022, Laura Balicov completed her master's studies with David Kuyken at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague performing at her graduation recital a challenging program such as Liszt’s Sonata in B minor and Chopin’s all 12 Etudes Op. 25. During her master's studies, Laura gave many solo recitals in the Netherlands and Moldova and performed chamber music with diverse instrumentalists ( viola, violin, saxophone, cello, trumpet, clarinet, French horn, hobo) in the venues such as KABK DenHaag, Amsterdam Conservatory, TivoliVredenburg Utrecht, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, Amare Den Haag, Nieuwe Kerk Den Haag, Nieuwe Kerk Haarlem, etc. In 2023 Laura and Stanislav were invited to perform in the PMAN (The Great National Assembly Square) on the Independence Day of Rep. of Moldova in an Open-Air Evening Concert with thousands of spectators. In September of the same year , the president of Moldova Maia Sandu publicly entitled Laura with the medal and title of “Emerited Artist” of Moldova in Amsterdam, Netherlands. In spring of 2024 Laura performed with her piano duo partner a series of concerts in Moldova and Romania, touring with programs for quatre-mains , two pianos, quatre-mains and orchestra. Currently Laura is living and performing in The Netherlands.
STANISLAV JAR
Stanislav Jar was born in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova in a family of musicians (mother is a piano teacher and head of piano department at the State Music Lyceum, father is retired choir conductor at National Philharmonic of Moldova). Stanislav began his studies in the art of piano at the ‘C.Porumbescu’ Lyceum of Music with Lia Oxinoit, his first teacher for more than 10 years. While studying with Lia Oxinoit, Stanislav became prize winner in many international piano competitions: 1995 - “Eugen Coca” International Piano Competition (Moldova) 1998- “Ada Caspi" International Piano Competition (Italy) 1999 -"Pro-Piano" International Piano Competition (Romania) 2000 - Winner of "Remember Enescu" International Piano Competition and special prize ”Constantin Silvestri” (Romania); 2001- Winner and Special Price for the best interpretation of Mozart, Sonata for two pianos (D-major) at "Gnesin" International Piano Duet and Chamber Music International Competition (Novomoskovsk, Russia). At age 15, Stanislav Jar first débuted with the Moldova National Symphony Orchestra in Chisinau, where he performed Schumann’s Piano Concerto under the masterful conducting of Valentin Doni. Upon graduation from ‘C.Prumbescu’ Music Lyceum, Stanislav Jar continued his studies at the Centenary College of Louisiana, USA with the world's recognized pianist, Mark Zeltser (former pupil of Yakov Flier). While studying with Dr.Zeltser, Stanislav Jar gave recitals in Shreveport, LA and Tyler, Texas. During his first year in the United States, he was chosen to represent Centenary College in Dallas, Texas, at the 2001 “Steinway & Sons” Music Festival. In the summer of the following year, Stanislav Jar visited Moldova to perform Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No.1 with the National Philharmonics Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Valentin Doni. Stanislav Jar’s American debut with the East Texas Symphony Orchestra under the notable conducting of Per Brevig (Norway) took place in November, 2002 in Tyler, Texas. In June 2003, he continued to divide his time between his native country of Moldova and the United States, and went on to receive rave reviews for his performance of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No.3, under the conducting of Valentin Doniand the National Symphony Orchestra of Moldova. In 2004, Stanislav Jar gave a number of recitals throughout New-Jersey. The same year, in June he gave a recital at the Organ Hall in Chisinau, Moldova, followed by a performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No.1 with the Swiss conductor Cristoph Escher. In 2005, Stanislav Jar was invited to play at the International Piano Festival “Les Nuits Pianistique”, organized by ‘Alliance Francaise en Moldavie’, and performed S.Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.3 with Cristoph Escher. In 2006, Stanislav was invited to give a recital in Gent, Belgium in “De Rode Pomp” Concert Hall. Following his Belgian debut, Stanislav gave a piano recital at the Organ Hall in Chisinau, followed by performance of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.23 (conductor - Akira Mori, Japan). In 2008, Stanislav Jar completed his Master in Music studies with Sergey Kovalenko, at the Academy of Music in Chisinau. In 2009 Stanislav Jar enters the class of world’s renowned concert-pianist Alexander Paley (former pupil of Bella Davidovich) and continues his studies at ‘La Schola Cantorum’ in Paris, France. In 2010, being permanent guest performer at “Les NuitsPianistique” International Piano Festival, Stanislav Jar performs Double Concerto for piano and orchestra by F.Mendelssohn-Bartholdy together with French pianist Samuel Parent and the conductor Didier Talpain (France). While studying with Mr.Paley, Stanislav Jar wins 4th prize in “PanchoVladigerov” International Piano Competition (Bulgaria, 2011) and becomes prize winner in “3eme Concours International de Piano de Lyon” (France, 2011). Same year Stanislav Jar performs a number of concerts with French pianist Marie-Catherine Girod and Alexander Paley, Bach Concerti for two and three pianos in France and Moldova. That year Moldovan newspaper “Timpul” (“Time"), writes an article about Stanislav Jar being “Moldova’s first pianist, prize-winner of a major international piano competition in 20 years”. Same year Stanislav Jar achieves “Diplôme de Virtuositéwhile studying at ‘La ScholaCantorum’. In 2012 - beginning of cruise ship contracts with French company “PONANT” until 2017. Giving classical concerts in the theatre on four ships of the same company (L’Austral, Le Boreal, Le Soleal, Le Lyrial) for the public from all over the world. Returning often to homeland Moldova, a series of chamber music concerts took place in the capital city with a talented violinist Ionel Manciu, performing violin sonatas by Beethoven, Ravel and Franck. At the same time Stanislav Jar is permanent guest artist at “Le NuitsPianistique”. In the summer of 2017, a performance of Rachmaninov’ Piano Concerto No.2 in C minor, brought standing ovation at the closing concert of the festival. One year later follows a virtuosic performance of Saint-Saens piano Concerto No.2 in G minor at the same festival “Les Nuits Pianistique”. In 2019 Stanislav Jar moves to The Netherlands together with Laura Balicov, a talented and gifted pianist from Moldova, they perform a considerable amount of quatre-mains and two pianos repertoire including 21 Hungarian Dances and Waltzes by Brahms, Schubert ‘Fantasia', Rachmaninoff Simfonic Dances, as well as Mozart sonatas, Stravinsky’ Petrouchka and others. In the following years the duo performs a series of concerts in their homeland and The Netherlands.Their repertoire also includes works for piano duo and quatre-mains with orchestra, such as Bach concerti for two harpsichords and Czerny quatre-main concerto with orchestra. In 2021 Stanislav returns in Moldova to perform Beethoven Concerto No.4 in G major with Organ Hall National Orchestra, conducted by Valentin Doni (Moldova/Romania). In October 2022 Stanislav Jar graduates his Doctorate studies (PHD), with diploma “Cum Laude” at “George Enescu" University in Romania, Iasi. In 2023, the president of Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu awards Stanislav with the medal and the title “Emerited Artist of Moldova”. The ceremony took place in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Curently Stanislav Jar is performing and teaching in The Netherlands
